Our client, a North Carolina resident, was driving on the New Jersey Turnpike in the early morning hours when she was rear-ended by an Alabama driver. She was seriously injured,
and transported to an area hospital where she underwent surgery and received treatment for her injuries. She contacted me from her hospital bed, and I immediately went to the hospital to meet her and to provide her with advice about her rights against the other driver. She retained me to represent her on her personal injury claim.
Although her North Carolina insurance policy had limited coverage, because the accident occurred in New Jersey, her insurance company provided the New Jersey standard personal injury protection coverage of $250,000.00. This was crucial due to the seriousness of her injuries.
Over several months, my client’s insurance company and I independently attempted to verify insurance coverage for the Alabama driver. Ultimately, her insurance company concluded through a search of a national insurance database that the Alabama driver had no insurance coverage at the time of the accident. Therefore, her uninsured motorists coverage would come into play to compensate her for her pain and suffering due to the accident. I was able to obtain a settlement from my client’s insurance company for the full uninsured motorists coverage policy limit. It is always a great day when I am able to achieve a strong result for my client. She was very pleased with the outcome, and expressed her appreciation that I came to visit her when she was hospitalized and experiencing extreme anxiety immediately following the accident.
